RULES
AGD SUMMER RACE 2024
1 – The entry is open to all pigeons, national and international, and all must have approved official ring of Federation / Association of the Year of the Event, having its owners to be members of the Organizing Body.
2 – In order to ensure the health of pigeons, with quarantine, vaccination, and creation of immunity groups, the reception of pigeons will be from 1st March to 30th May reserving the organization the right to create immunity groups depending on the dates of entry.
3 – Each team will be composed of 6 pigeons, pigeons no. 1, nº 2, and no. 3 (ACTIVE) competitors to all races and prizes in dispute, and pigeons no. 4 and no. 5 and no. 6, (RESERVE). The price to pay per team is 600€ (3 pigeons activated).
3.1 – When registration forms are not received duly completed and with the information on the order of the pigeons, the ORGANISATION AGD will register the pigeons in random order. Changes can only be made to the registrations of pigeons up to 5 days before the start of official races.
3.1.1 – If payment of the entrance fee is not paid or not paid in time (before the pigeons arrive at the pigeon loft), the entries may be excluded from prizes. If payment is not received before the pigeons have arrived, the pigeons will be set aside. The participating team may receive a reminder for payment. If payment is not made within 1 week after the reminder has been sent, the organization can return the pigeons to the sender. The costs for returning will then be borne by the sender.
3.2 – The 3 RESERVE pigeons of each team are the pigeons described in the registration form as R1, R2, R3, and are RESERVE of the 3 ACTIVE, and pass the ASSETS in order of the registration form, first the nº R1, then the nº R2 and then the R3, whenever any of the 3 active pigeons of a team is lost, or if they are ACTIVATED by the owners or another person to date to be stipulated by the organization.
3.3 – RESERVE pigeons can be activated after the ACTIVATION RACE.
3.4 – If an ACTIVATED RESERVE pigeon gets lost after the ACTIVATION RACE the owner will be refunded according to the following:
3.4.1 – Pigeon lost in Race 1 (not basketed for Race 2) will be refunded in 80% of the activation fee.
3.4.2 – Pigeon lost in Race 2 (not basketed for Race 3) will be refunded in 60% of the activation fee.
3.4.3 – Pigeon lost in Race 3 (not basketed for Semi-Final) will be refunded in 40% of the activation fee.
3.4.4 – Pigeon lost in Race 4 (not basketed for the Final) will be refunded in 20% of the activation fee.
3.5 – Only ACTIVE + ACTIVATED RESERVE pigeons are entitled to prizes.
3.6 – Pigeon owners can activate the RESERVE pigeons for the official Ace-Pigeon races until the date to be stipulated by the organization, paying 200€ per pigeon value subject to Vat at the legal rate in force (23%).
3.7 -RESERVE pigeons that are not activated by the owners, until the date stipulated by the organization for this purpose participate in the official Ace-Pigeon races, but without the right to prizes, reversing this prize for the organization, if they qualify in a prize, and after returning from a race, can be activated for the races afterwards by the owners until the date to be stipulated.
3.8 – Pigeons not activated by the owners until the date to be stipulated can be activated by third parties, being entitled to the prizes won from this date, however the % on the sale at auction will always be attributed to the original owner. The price of each registration/activation per PIGEON RESERVE will be 200 euros VAT Included at the rate in force (23%). For activations contact the agent in the country or send email to geral@algarvegreatderby.com. Reservation requests will be ordered on a first-come, first-served order of the request to the email, sending email is mandatory, and may not be sufficient for the activation of pigeons only the bank proof, this by itself may not guarantee the activation of pigeons, and the organization is not responsible or guaranteed, activations that are not accompanied by email to request such activations.
3.9 – All pigeons that are not fit will not be encased for the final, these pigeons will become the property of the organization, which will offer them to clubs, or other social organizations, to auction and thus obtain revenue.
3.10 -Pigeons registered in a team will not be able to change teams even if the owner is the same from the beginning of the ace pigeon championship.
3.11 – There will be an exclusive activation period for the owner and the last 72 hours of the activation period will be extended to third parties if the pigeons are not yet activated, this information will be exclusively on the Website www.algarvegreatderby.com so it is indispensable to consult.
3.12 – All Participants/Teams must be competitors/participants of AGD – Algarve Great derby.
3.13 – The initial amount payable (3 active pigeons), 600€, 50 % is a partner quota (vat-free) that is fixed at 25€ per month, and 50% is registration in the race (vat included at the rate 23%).
3.14 – Bank charges for transfers to the AGD- Algarve Great Derby (Organizing Club) are the responsibility of the transferer. Transfers from outside the European Union in addition to the registration for each bank transfer made the amount charged by the same, by the banks in Portugal (Europe).
3.15 – Registration in the race only becomes effective and definitive after all the amounts due have been paid, and if these payments are not made, the amounts that may eventually be won and paid by the AGD, whether prizes or amounts of purchase or sale of pigeons, revert to the Organization, which will then be delivered to charities.
3.16 – Each participating member may register the teams he/she understands and will have to pay, the amount equivalent to a membership quota and the amount of a registration, for each team that registers.
3.17 – When registering 10 teams the participant will be entitled to 1 free team (3 pigeons activated)
3.18 – For every 10 reserve pigeons activated the participant is entitled to one free.
3.19 – If any pigeon dies or is lost in the free loft flights it can be replaced until June 15, without extra registration costs. For shipping prices contact the agent in your country or the Organization.
3.20 – If a RESERVE pigeon of a Participant wins a disputed value NOT yet activated this value reverts to the organization.
4 – The pigeons must be vaccinated against PMV, within 30 days prior to shipment, and be between 45/ 60 days old. They will be sent to Pombal AGD – Algarve Great Derby, Faro Airport, or representatives in the various countries (see agents).
5 – The space in the loft is limited to a maximum of 6000 pigeons, so a place in the loft will be ensured based on the principle of the first Inscribes.
5.1 – To register you can use our website and register there. If this is not possible, you can always contact the agent in the country you reside. (See our list of agents). The agent will then assist you with the registration.
5.2 – All participants from the previous year have a guaranteed place in the loft for the following year, having to make their reservation until December 31 of the year prior to the year of the event. After this date no places are guaranteed to participate.
6- After entering the loft the pigeons are in the care of the organization AGD-Algarve Great Derby, continuing the property of the participating partner. The pigeons arrived from the final race, will be compulsorily auctioned, or sold to national or international sites by the owner, having the owner the right to 35% of the value of the sale.
7- If any pigeon is not sold in auction, for the first time, participant loses the right to share of the value of the sale.
8 – The amounts payable as stipulated in the Prize document, will be paid from the 15th day following the final race, having the participating partner send to the email geral@algarvegreatderby.com the Iban of the bank account, and the document proving his tax address.
9 – The amounts referring to the share of the sale of pigeons at auction will be paid, by the auctioneers to the AGD – Algarve Great Derby (Organizing Club) after all auctions have finished, and the pigeons are paid by the buyers, the AGD Organization will send the owners the amount corresponding to their share in the sale. If any pigeon is sold and is not paid by the buyer, it goes to auction second time. The percentage for the owner is 35% of the value of the sale. If a pigeon doesn’t get paid twice, it won’t go to auction again.
10 – All pigeons must be accompanied by card / title property (mandatory) and pedigree in closed envelope that will only be opened by the organization after the final release. Pigeons that are not accompanied by full pedigree (father, mother and grandparents), the owner will not be entitled to the percentage of the value of the sale. The organization will only receive pedigrees until 7 days after the Final Race.
11 – Since it has become mandatory by the Portuguese Federation of Pigeon racing, all pigeons have card / title property to participate in the race Final Race, all pigeons that do not have to be requested second copies to the Federation, and the cost will be the responsibility of the participant (2 € each), since he has not sent originals. The organization agrees to receive cards/titles until 8 days after the final.
12 – All pigeons entering the loft will be assigned an electronic chip.
13- The basketing for the final race will be organized by the organization, with the supervision and participation of independent entities, where all pigeons will be stamped on a wing. It will then be made available to the present, press and website of the event and Benzing, listing of all pigeons participating in the final race. The pigeons will be accompanied to the release site by independent entities that will supervise the release that will be carried out with the support of a national meteorologist.
14- All advertised and published premium amounts are based on the entry on a minimum number of teams, of 6 pigeons each (paid). The organization reserves the right to change the value of the prizes, proportionally to the teams that enter the race.
15- In the loft will be followed the National rules of non-use of drugs and the pigeons will be regularly analyzed by the official Veterinarian.
16- The dates of training and competition can be changed by the organization due to meteorological data and/or other reasons. The organization’s decision is final. The decision cannot be contested in any way.
17- If the rules do not provide for conflicts, Portuguese law applies. As a result, any legal cases will have to be brought before a Portuguese court.
The official regulations will be in English and posted on the website. The organization cannot be held responsible for translations in other languages of the regulations of the Algarve Great Derby.
18 – The system for registration the arrival of pigeons in training and races is an authorised electronic system.
19 – Pigeons shall be housed in a loft built for this purpose and for all to have the same conditions; the lofts will have only perches and there will be no separation of sexes.
20 – Due to the date of the event will be used the system “Daylight” to control the moulting of the pigeons.
21 – ACE PIGEON- REGULATION
21.1 -Compete for ace pigeon, all pigeons that entered the loft.
21. 2 – To win the ACE PIGEON Championship, the pigeon must rank in all 5 races Ace Pigeon that take place.
21.3 – If 1 or more of the 5 races cannot take place, the ace pigeon competition is determined by the races that did take place.
21.4 – In case of a tie after the conclusion of the competition Ace-Pigeon, the pigeon with the best classification in the final race will be the winner of the ACE PIGEON.
21.5 – The classification of the Ace Pigeon will be made according to the calculation formula provided by the FCI – (Prize x 1000) / (pigeons basketed x distance) – and ordered in ascending order by the sum of the coefficient in each race, with the winner being the pigeon with the lowest total coefficient.
22- Criterion of time of registration:
22.1 – In the first 4 races, the classification for the ACE PIGEON ends after closing the race in the BENZING system, at least 8 hours after the arrival of the first pigeon.
22. 2- In the final race, the classification of Ace-Pigeon ends after closing the race in the BENZING system, at least 8 hours after the arrival of the first pigeon and until the end of the second day of verification.
23 – Unforeseen
23.1 – In the event of any anomaly, such as a pandemic, impositions of higher entities, meteorological catastrophe, sabotage, or others, unrelated to the organization, that it is not possible to hold all the official races, entitled to prizes, after the pigeons have entered the loft and are paid, the organization will sell the pigeons at auction, 35% of the sale price for the owner of the pigeon, and the participants of that year will be entitled to entry to the next edition free of charge, in the same number of teams and pigeons that participated that year. In the event that any unforeseen of the above occurs after some races have already taken place, they will be void, as well as the respective prizes won.
24- TAXES
24.1 -The amounts mentioned in the Regulation include VAT at the rate in force, since applicable, and all prizes are in euro. According to the opinion of the Tax Authority and Portuguese law, all participants / members resident in Portugal who receive money from prizes, pigeon sales or commissions, will be responsible for the payment of its tax (25%), referring to these funds, withholding by the AGD (Organizing Club) of this amount, which will then send it to the Tax Authority, as determined by law. Non-residents in Portugal are exempt from paying the tax, and there is no withholding (25%), the prizes will be paid in full, provided that they present a tax residence certificate abroad, or model 21-RFI duly completed and stamped, and if they do not provide proof of tax residence outside Portugal the AGD will have to deduct in the premiums the amount of 25 %, and then send that money to the Portuguese Tax Authority.
25 – The AGD – Algarve Great Derby (Organizing Club) Does not exchange, neither with other OLR nor with owners of other OLR. All Pigeons must be titled on the individual behalf of the Participating Member or on behalf of a team chosen by him or her. No Owner of any OLR will benefit from special conditions of Participation in the Algarve Great Derby even having to activate their pigeons reserves if this activation is requested on the website www.algarvegreatderby.com.
26 – There is the possibility of participation of pigeons from third countries and these pigeons are subject to a quarantine period to be held in the Quarantine Centre of the Portuguese Federation of Pigeon Racing, this cost being the responsibility of the Participating Members.

28 – Any eventuality that leads to conflict not covered by this regulation, will be resolved by the organization, and this decision will be sovereign.
29 – COLLABORATION Meteorological Support Made available by FPC National and International Collaborators to be published on the event’s website. Official Veterinarian of the Columbódromo, Dr. Ruben Jeronimo. The system of finding the arrival of pigeons in training and tests is an official electronic system authorized by the FPC of Brand Benzing. The Loft of AGD is equipped with the new Speed antennas capable of registering more than 1000 pigeons per minute without failing a single registration.

30 – The organization will address invitations to institutions in the municipality of Olhão, in order to obtain their participation so that these athletes can participate in the Algarve Great Derby, the revenue of these pigeons after withdrawals the expenses of organizing the auction will be in its entirety for the participating entities not wanting the organization any amount, this support will be given as a donation. These pigeons will participate in all the races until the Semi-final and the best of these pigeons classified in the ace pigeon will win the right to participate in the final race of the Algarve Great derby.
31 -The Organization may provide Venture birds to be activated by participating members or by third parties, these venture birds will have a cost of 200€ VAT included and will participate in the races winning the amounts in dispute from the moment they are activated.
